Akonadi Foundation’s ‘So Love Can Win’ Rapid Response Fund now open and accepting applications on a rolling basis August 15 through November 15, 2016.
One-time $2,500 mini-grants are intended to spark imagination and seed efforts that contribute to creating healing and safety for communities of color in Oakland.
Oakland is one of the most racially diverse cities in the country, with a majority of its residents identifying as people of color. However, people of color are disproportionately impacted by inequality, including displacement, oppressive policing, and economic injustice. Meanwhile, in Oakland and around the country, communities are rising up, calling for justice, and organizing against the murder of our trans women of color comrades, for immigration reform for our migrant and immigrant brothers and sisters, and for police accountability for our black and brown loved ones. It is more clear than ever that transformative change is needed, and philanthropy must invest in ways that spark our collective radical imagination to dream of what a more just, safe world can look like for all us.
At Akonadi Foundation, we are deeply committed to investing in and supporting community-based organizations and initiatives in Oakland that are on the frontlines of racial justice movement building. Today, we remain as committed as ever to racial justice movement building that strengthens the solidarity and intersectionality of our struggles. That is why, in response to this critical moment in Oakland and nationally, we are launching the #SoLoveCanWin Rapid Response Fund to spark imagination and seed new ways of advancing safety and healing in Oakland. Building safe and healed communities is a precondition for the sustained transformative change we seek.
Through this new fund, we will offer one-time $2,500 mini-grants to racial justice projects in Oakland that reimagine, as well as lift up, ongoing work centered around healing and safety for communities of color.
