On Thursday night, we premiered our short film profiling 2025 Racial Justice Poster Project artist Zoë Boston. We are blown away by the breadth of Zoë’s creative muscle and the depth of what she is here to say! We thank everyone who came out to celebrate and even if you weren’t able to attend, we encourage you to take 5 minutes to see Zoë’s brilliance for yourself.
In the Q&A following the film, Zoë shared more on her inspiration for her poster:
“I pulled from how Oakland’s made me feel, just the importance of showing light and life through art. And, showing how important it is to come together in community, especially now more than ever. The process was just meditating on what that looks like and the image of two hands joining together showing community, life and the growth that happens when you come together.”
Zoë’s words and art offer a vision of a future where grace, resilience, and community care help us grow stronger together. Her work is a tribute to Oakland’s enduring spirit — and a powerful reminder that despite the forces that seek to divide us, we can choose solidarity, love, and community care.
We hope you enjoy Zoë’s video and feel as inspired as we do by the creative leaders who help build a racially just Oakland. Akonadi is committed to supporting artists and culture creators, like Zoë, who are essential to building power and community in Oakland.
