Akonadi Foundation joins 23 California foundations in calling on officials to declare public health emergencies in response to violent immigration enforcement.
When immigration enforcement creates fear that keeps people from seeking medical care, going to work, or sending their children to school, it becomes a threat to both our freedom and our health. Entire communities are experiencing fear, trauma, and delayed access to care. These harms fall disproportionately on immigrants and communities of color, deepening racial health inequities.
We condemn the violent and unnecessary immigration enforcement escalating in California, Minnesota, and communities across the nation. These actions are not only an assault on basic freedoms — they are creating a public health crisis.
No one should have to choose between their health, their family, their education, and their safety.
