Renee Geesler joined Akonadi Foundation to help increase the administrative and communications capacity of the organization during their next phase of growth. She provides communications, administrative, and office management support for the Akonadi team. Renee also provides administrative support for Jordan Real Estate Investments.
Renee has worked in the Bay Area non-profit sector for over 15 years. She feels her purpose is to utilize her background in leadership development, community outreach and communications to organize for racial justice and local investment in Oakland’s youth. She gains inspiration both from her network of fellow movement makers, and in helping social justice organizations advance their vision and programs.
Prior to joining Akonadi, Renee spent three years at Rockwood Leadership Institute and managed Rockwood’s public programs including Art of Leadership, Advanced Art of Leadership and special trainings. She served as the primary point of contact for over 1,000 non-profit leaders.
Her previous work includes ten years at KPFA Radio, 94.1 FM. As the Co-Director of the First Voice Apprenticeship Program at KPFA, Renee trained women and people of color in broadcast journalism, media justice, and personal empowerment. She is the co-founder of KPFA’s Asian American Radio show, Apex Express, and Full Circle Radio Magazine. Renee was also a contributing producer for the Peabody-awarded documentary on Asian American history, Crossing East.
When she isn’t working, Renee can be found working at Mamacitas Cafe, a women owned youth run cafe and training program for Oakland girls. Renee loves to garden with her daughter, eat ramen, and fry donut kebab for @MamacitasCafe
